Pregnant woman lost in Kolkata reaches hospital after city traffic

The traffic police in Kolkata, West Bengal helped a pregnant woman in reaching the hospital after she lost her way.

A pregnant woman who was lost on her way to the hospital reached the facility safely after the Kolkata traffic police came to her rescue. The 19-year-old woman hails from a village in West Bengal and was going to a government hospital when she lost her way. 

On Sunday, a traffic cop saw the woman on the road near Taratala crossing and approached her. Realising that the woman needed immediate medical attention, the cop coordinated with his department and helped the woman in reaching the hospital. 

At around 2 pm on Sunday, a sergeant noticed that the woman was sitting on a footpath as she writhed in pain. A lady food seller was trying to help the woman when the cop saw her.

When the cop noticed that the woman was pregnant and in need of medical help, he contacted his team and informed them about the incident. A team comprising officer-in-charge of south-west traffic guard reached the spot and stopped a taxi. 

The team sanitized the taxi and escorted the four-wheeler to Vidyasagar Hospital. Meanwhile, the cops contacted the assistant superintendent of the hospital and asked the facility to prepare a bed. 

When the vehicle carrying the pregnant woman reached the hospital, a medical team wheeled the woman to the labour room on a stretcher. A team of police officials was also present at the spot. 

The doctors sent the woman for ultrasonography and took the woman to the operation centre, The Times of India reported. After the procedure, the woman delivered a baby girl.
