Kolkata:
A 57-year-old man in West Bengal died by suicide on Tuesday, attributing his act to the National Register of Citizens (NRC). His death has sparked a political confrontation between the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

Police said Pradeep Kar, a trader, was discovered hanging from the ceiling of his second-floor residence at the Uma Apartment complex in Mahajyati Nagar under Khardah Municipality.

Officers reported that a diary recovered from his room contained multiple notes referencing the NRC. One page stated: “NRC is responsible for my death.”

Reason Behind NRC Anxiety?
Barrackpore Police Commissioner Muralidhar said that after receiving information about the incident, officers reached Kar’s home, where they found a suicide note inside a diary near his body.
