SIR Forms Circulated on Bengal Streets, Complaint Lodged with Election Commission

Reports indicate that people have been flocking to street corners to collect forms from BLOs, prompting a warning from the ECI.

Kolkata:
The Election Commission of India (ECI) has received several complaints from various political parties in West Bengal against Booth Level Officers (BLOs) for distributing enumeration forms for the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) at tea stalls, local clubs, street corners, schools, and other public locations.

Reports indicate that people have been crowding street corners to collect forms from BLOs. Although officers are trained to carry out this task on the ground, some have distributed forms in ways that violate ECI guidelines, causing embarrassment for the state’s chief electoral officer (CEO).

Poll Body Issues Warning
In response to the complaints, the ECI issued a warning to senior election officials to strictly follow the poll body’s guidelines.

The BLOs were reminded of their responsibilities and electoral rules, with a clear directive that enumeration forms should only be delivered by visiting voters’ homes. Distribution at any other location is strictly prohibited.
