This marks the third arrest in the case. Sarkar was taken into custody from Siliguri on Wednesday after his name reportedly came up during the questioning of the two earlier accused, Raju Dhali and Tufan Thapa.
One of the previously arrested accused, Raju Dhali, is alleged to have worked as a driver for Burman, while Tufan Thapa, a contractor, is said to have been a close associate. The investigation has now been transferred to the Bidhannagar Detective Department.
The Bidhannagar Police have arrested Sajal Sarkar, a local Trinamool Congress block president, in connection with the murder of jeweller Swapan Kamillya, whose body was discovered near a canal in New Town’s Jatragachi area on October 29. This marks the third arrest in the case. Sarkar was taken into custody from Siliguri on Wednesday after his name reportedly emerged during the questioning of the two previously arrested individuals, Raju Dhali and Tufan Thapa.
