The Indian Statistical Institute has expressed its strongest condemnation of this incident

Kolkata:
Earlier this week, a controversy erupted at a premier Kolkata institute over communal graffiti. A day after the suicide bombing near Delhi’s Red Fort, hate messages were spotted at the Indian Statistical Institute.

The graffiti—“No dogs and Muslims”—was found written in chalk on the boys’ hostel doors and staircases. The phrases “Only place for Muslims” appeared on dustbins, while “No Muslims allowed” was scrawled on doors at CV Raman Hall on campus.

On Friday, a group of students staged a counter-protest against those responsible for the communal graffiti.

They pasted the message—“Please throw your religious hatred here”—on the dustbin, and also displayed Article 15 of the Constitution at the main entrance of the hostel.

The students said the effort was meant to remind everyone that discrimination based on religion, caste, sex, race, or place of birth is prohibited in India.
